Democracy…..People’s rights……These words have really a very different meaning than the meaning understood in the present. Media plays a very huge role in deciding the art and act of democracy. But,in general every one of us will have a feeling that the media is not doing their duties properly. Lets just analyze the role and responsibility of media in Indian democracy in a few lines as follows.
Media is indeed a very powerful tool. In olden days people tend to believe in the news which media delivers around the country. So,when something was published or telecast in media one could infer the truth very easily. But,conditions have changed erratically and dramatically. This is MODERN INDIA my friends. So,when every possible things and every possible fields were subjecting to changes these past days….why not the Media???
So,the one question that needs to be answered is did the changes affected media? The answer would be a very big yes. But,the sad thing is these changes are so big that even people think that the responsibility of media has changed a lot..
so,What is the responsibility of media?
1. The first and foremost responsibility of media is to serve as an interface between the government and common man in this democracy….to serve as a bridge.
ARE THEY DOING IT?
2. The second responsibility would be to bring all possible things into light…
ARE THEY DOING IT?
3. The third responsibility is to help people in nourishing their rights and realizing their responsibility in a democracy.
ARE THEY DOING IT?
The answer for the above questions will be unfortunately a very big NO.. When we analyze this matter, Media do serve as interface but not the interface between a common man and the government.
- The media has also indeed become a very big business. So,every media channel is looking for more TRP ratings more than some reputation. So,people lost belief in them.
- The media which once considered the most powerful tool has now become one of the many business sectors. The number of channels increased rapidly from the pre-independence era;but not the quality.
- No one could deny these facts. It is so evident from the programs and events which the media channels telecast these days.
So,IF MEDIA FAILS THEN?
If media lost its power, then we will have to go through certain adverse consequences. A common man cannot know what is happening in the government..So,is this democracy?
Many young citizens even lost hope in our ruling system. The media which should explain them the real problems has indeed adding fuel to the fire.
So,if this trend continues then a day will come in which the connection or relationship between the government and common man will be entirely cut off;which is of course happening very fast now.
A BABY WON’T SURVIVE SO LONG IN WOMB WHEN ITS UMBILICAL CORD LOSES CONNECTION WITH THE PLACENTA..

NOTE TO READERS
1. This is more of a discussion topic rather than a note. so,there are many facts which needs to be discussed here..so,i was unable to put every fact in the above paragraphs.
2. These entire paragraphs just denotes Television channels in the word media. This does not entirely refer to newspapers, though newspapers are a part of mass media. We will have a separate article on that.

First of all.. The very essential point to be noted is, the media has completely become a place of business, they just want to attract viewers whether the news they give is worth it or not. They want to make money out of it. Even recently i saw an incident like this, a popular news channel in India was broadcasting Mangalore’s Aircrash, saying that 169 people were on board while it crashed and 58 people are so far dead(This channel has done a good job because they released death counts only after confirmations) . But many tamil news channels were broadcasting all 169 were dead though there were eight survivors. After seeing this I was shocked, how embrassing!!! they didn’t care about the families of anyone, they just wanted to broadcast the news as a popular one. Thats all their aim is.
When money speaks in sanctum sanctorum of a temple, why won’t it speak in media?
We all aware of the power of media. They have had the ability divert people according to their convenient.
But the word media have included more things in this era, not just TV’s and newspapers. Thus in either shake true news or information is spread over it. It is duty of the citizen to choose the right one. The word service has lost it’s real meaning this money world.
We viewers has rights to ask them question when they override their responsibility. Untill we keep mum it will be their turn to play.
The one thing which we do need to keep in our mind is that there are people who always believe in news channels more than anything..And the point u r making that LET US CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE…..I don’t think everyone could do this..also, When so many theories have been put forward to a concept and the same old concept again.Well, there should be some means of belief and trustworthiness………For instance, lets take an example a news is telecast in a local news channel and a National channel say Doordarshan. When they put on two different theories as a laymen one is inclined to believe in the second more. You can claim that everything needs to be analyzed before coming into a conclusion. I would say Just ask yourself…Can we analyze everything we see and hear…..or is it feasible to do?…Well….i don’t think so and the truth this time backs me more………
Media is very crucial way of providing entropy, without Media there is no connection between people and outdoors.Nowadays, media gander for earn money not intended to provide information.Well,In TV act of examining resemblances more on entertainment channels than some useful channel.so,their estimate to earn money and disturbing the upcoming succeeders navigate them into entertainment(always).Generally Humans thoughts to be happy in nature.so,they does not accomplish its intended purpose.Media makes them to stable state.
Well said…The media has the power to light up anything..But the one sad thing is they are not doing it..But we have to blame us too….Because we are the one who always tend to like commercials than any nation wide programs… The practical difficulty in changing the mindset of each and everyone in this Country is badly hurting us..Lets hope a leader will come soon to change everything and bring the media into light to light up the whole country.
This is where the problem is.We Indian always looks for a leader.May be it’s because of the kinda movies or mythological stories we have had heard or watched since childhood. Why can’t we just start from home instead of searching for a ‘HERO’???
This is one sensistive discussion you have brought in. The issue is indeed alarming and needs attention of the young blood. Its true that media (not all but most) has been ruled by money than its very purpose of providing right info and its high time that we ask and fight back for the right for information living in a democratic nation like India. Leaving it on Uncle Sam or higher ruling authorities will definitely do no good. I feel its we who should act, raise voice and fight back!
I appreciate your initiative to voice views on this and hope this reaches as many ears and eyes as possible to bring a revolution in media and its existence.
Exactly Diya!! We should start reacting instead of waiting for a leader to come and change everything with his supernatural wisdom.
i think that a lot of impoosible works ve been done wd da help of media bcuz it has da ability or we should say power to mould da minds of da people…it is playin a imp role in da systems of present life..its i believe playing an outstanding role in strengthening the society, its a mirror of the society….all da scams ve been put forward by da media..wen dey wer just looting da money fr their purpose..i think da credit goes 2 media fr puttin forward all da cases..2g scam, commonwealth games..i could say the aarushi case was made 2 reopen just bcuz of media..bcuz dey investigated deeply into da matter n in last the court had 2 reopen the case…i think dese r just a few eg..it is only da half truth…the king of middle east i could say who was ruling since past 30 yrs…was made 2 finally flee frm da country bcuz da media instigated da people 2 rise agnst autocrats…n finally he was made 2 flee…media is da watch dog of da political democracy…
We all know dear media is not working properly..electronic media is the first but it’s our problem we just love to watch that Sansni khej news so they are telecasting that.change ourself can change our India
As we all know that Media is a fourth pillar of democracy and plays important role in it. It is interface between common people and government….so without this we can’t imagine to connect with government. So its play vital role in shaping human minds. It is a medium to create awareness among the people regarding different social, political and economical activities happening around the world. It is a backbone of democracy. It is the media who remind politicians about their unfulfilled promises at the time of elections. Tv and radio have made a significant achievement in educating illiterate people in making them aware of all the events in their regional language. It also exposes the loopholes of democracy system, which ultimately helps government in filling the vacuum of loopholes and making a system more accountable, responsible and citizen friendly. A democracy without media is like a vehicle without wheels. In the age of IT we are bombarded with information and we get the pulse of the world events with just a click of a mouse.
Well said…The media has the power to light up anything..But the one sad thing is they are not doing it…..So conclusion is that no one is perfect in this world and so is the media. Here I’m not degrading the media rather I would say there is still a lot of scope for improvement. Media is like a watchdog in a democracy that keeps governmenet active. From being just an informer it has become an integral part of our daily lives.
